About Arch of Percé Rock, Quebec

Seen from the side, Percé Rock shows the natural arch that gave it its name, about 15 metres high. Old accounts say the rock once had more arches; one collapsed in 1845, leaving a separate pillar called the obelisk. The French explorer Jacques Cartier sailed past this coast in 1534, and for centuries the village of Percé lived from cod fishing. The rock is now part of a national park. In this photo the arch opens through the end of the reddish limestone wall above the sea.

Puzzle tip: start with the arch and the edges of the rock, then the layers of stone, and finish with the sea and sky.
