About Belém Tower, Lisbon

Belém Tower stands at the edge of the River Tagus in Lisbon, close to where Portugal's great voyages of discovery set sail. It was built in the early 16th century to guard the entrance to the harbour, and its stone is carved with ropes, armillary spheres and other symbols of the sea. Together with the nearby Jerónimos Monastery it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-known sights in Portugal.

Puzzle tip: the carved tower and its little turrets come together first; leave the river and the cloudy sky for the end.
