About Blackwater on the Likouala-aux-Herbes River

The Likouala-aux-Herbes River winds through the far north of the Republic of the Congo, in one of the largest swamp forests on Earth. Its water is stained dark brown by tannins from fallen leaves, like strong tea, so it reflects the trees almost like a mirror. Beneath these forests lies the world's biggest tropical peatland, which stores huge amounts of carbon, and the swamps around Lake Télé are home to many western lowland gorillas. This photo shows the forest reflected in the still, dark water.

Puzzle tip: start with the trees and their reflections, then the bright sky, and the dark water in between last.
