About Republic of the Congo
The coast was once ruled by the Kingdom of Loango, which traded with Europeans from the 1500s. Brazzaville was founded by the French explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza in 1880 and was the capital of French Equatorial Africa; the country became independent in 1960.
You can put together the red cliffs of the Gorges of Diosso near Pointe-Noire, the Lefini River on the Batéké Plateaux, a lone tree on the Congo River at Brazzaville, and the dark water and a riverside village on the Likouala-aux-Herbes in the far north.
