About Café Street under Colourful Shades, Nicosia

Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and the last divided capital in Europe: since 1974 a buffer zone controlled by the United Nations has run through its old town. The historic centre is enclosed by Venetian walls built in 1567, which form an almost perfect star with eleven bastions. Ledra Street, the main shopping street, leads to a crossing point that has allowed people to walk between the two sides since 2008. In the narrow lanes nearby, cafés and shops spill out onto the street. In this photo coloured sunshades stretch over a lively street of cafés and old balconies.

Puzzle tip: the yellow and white shades overhead make a clear pattern; the street and the people below come next.
