Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, a land of sunny beaches, mountain villages and ruins left by many ancient peoples. Our Cyprus puzzle shows one of its most famous places: Aphrodite's Rock on the south-west coast.
The rock, called Petra tou Romiou in Greek, is a large sea stack standing in the waves beside a pebble beach. According to ancient Greek legend, Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, was born from the sea foam at this spot. Visitors still come to watch the sunset here, and a local story says that swimming around the rock brings good luck.
