About Cape Spear Lighthouse, Newfoundland

Cape Spear, a few kilometres south-east of St. John's in Newfoundland, is the most easterly point of Canada, and of all North America if Greenland is not counted, so people come here to watch the first sunrise on the continent. Its first lighthouse was lit in 1836, and in 1955 the light moved to the white concrete tower seen in this photo. From the cliffs visitors often see whales in summer and icebergs drifting past in spring. Here the tower and a long white fence stand on a brown headland above the dark blue Atlantic.

Puzzle tip: start with the white tower and the fence, then the brown ground, and finish with the sea and the sky.
