About Colonial Town of Ouro Preto, Brazil

Ouro Preto, meaning black gold, grew rich in the 18th century during Brazil's gold rush in the mountains of Minas Gerais. Its steep cobbled streets are lined with whitewashed houses and baroque churches, many decorated by the sculptor Aleijadinho. The town was the first place in Brazil to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in 1980.

Puzzle tip: the white houses and red roofs make clear areas; the church towers and the green hills come next.
