About Flooded Forest near Manaus

Around Manaus, in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, the rivers rise by about ten metres in the rainy season and spread far into the forest. These seasonally flooded forests are called igapó when they lie along dark rivers such as the Rio Negro. For months the trees stand with their trunks under water, and fish swim among them to feed on fallen fruit and seeds. Boats can then travel through the forest itself. In this photo the trees and their twisted trunks are mirrored perfectly in the still, dark water.

Puzzle tip: the reflection doubles every tree, so match each trunk with its mirror image across the waterline.
