About Courtyard of Beiteddine Palace, Mount Lebanon

Beiteddine Palace stands on a hillside in the Chouf Mountains, south-east of Beirut. It was built over about thirty years in the late 18th and early 19th centuries by Emir Bashir Shihab II, who ruled Mount Lebanon for half a century. Local craftsmen and architects from Damascus decorated its halls with marble, mosaics and painted wooden ceilings. Today the palace is the summer residence of the President of Lebanon and holds a museum, and each summer its courtyards host the Beiteddine Festival of music and theatre.

Puzzle tip: the arches give the courtyard a clear rhythm, so build them first; the paving and the sky come last.
