About Elmina Castle by the Harbour

Elmina Castle was built by the Portuguese in 1482 on Ghana's Atlantic coast. It later passed to the Dutch and then the British, and became part of the history of the transatlantic slave trade. Today it is a museum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, visited to learn about that painful past. In the photograph, a boat in the foreground places the white castle beside Elmina's working harbour. The boat's shape and the bright walls offer clear starting points for the puzzle.

Puzzle tip: start with the boat and white castle walls, then join them with the harbour water.
