About Erbil Citadel from Above

The Citadel of Erbil rises on an oval mound some 25 to 32 metres above the centre of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The mound grew from the remains of settlements one on top of another, and people may have lived on it for more than six thousand years, which would make it one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world. Its outer ring of houses forms a wall around the old town. The Citadel has been a World Heritage Site since 2014. This view from above shows its whole oval shape.

Puzzle tip: the oval edge of the citadel is the best place to start; the city around it is easier once the oval is in place.
