About Essequibo River from the Air

The Essequibo is the longest river in Guyana, flowing about 1,000 kilometres from the southern highlands to the Atlantic, and it is the largest river between the Orinoco and the Amazon. Near the coast it widens so much that its mouth is filled with islands, some of them large enough for farms and villages. The town of Bartica stands where the Mazaruni and Cuyuni rivers join it, the gateway to the gold and diamond country of the interior. This aerial photo, taken on a flight back to Georgetown, shows the pale river winding between sandbanks through dark green forest.

Puzzle tip: start with the pale river and its sandbanks, then the dark forest on both sides and the sky at the top.
