About Fort Henry Guard at Fort Henry, Kingston

Fort Henry stands on a hill above Kingston, Ontario, where Lake Ontario flows into the St. Lawrence River and the Rideau Canal begins. The British built the stone fort between 1832 and 1837 to protect the naval dockyard and the canal from an American attack that never came. Today it is part of the Rideau Canal World Heritage Site, and in summer the Fort Henry Guard, students dressed as British soldiers of the 1860s, march, drill and fire cannons for visitors. The guard's mascot is a goat, and in this photo goats wait with guards in uniform at the gate of the fort.

Puzzle tip: begin with the guards, the goats and the dark gateway, then the long grey walls, and leave the paved yard and the sky for last.
