About Grossglockner High Alpine Road

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road crosses the Hohe Tauern mountains between Salzburg and Carinthia. Its 48 kilometres include 36 bends and reach the Hochtor Pass at about 2,504 metres above sea level. The road was built to bring travellers into the high mountains and now passes through Hohe Tauern National Park. Austria’s highest peak, Grossglockner, gives the route its name. In the photograph, the winding road cuts across dark slopes below snow-covered peaks, making a clear line through the wide mountain scene.

Puzzle tip: follow the pale road through the dark slopes before tackling the snowy peaks.
