About Guelta Maya, Ennedi

The Ennedi Massif in northeastern Chad is a high sandstone plateau in the middle of the Sahara, cut by deep canyons, arches and towers. In some of the narrow gorges, water collects in pools called gueltas, which stay full all year because the steep walls shade them from the sun. Plants grow thick around them, and nomads bring their camels here to drink. The Ennedi is a UNESCO World Heritage site, also known for thousands of ancient rock paintings. This photo looks into the Guelta Maya, with green water between orange cliffs.

Puzzle tip: start with the orange cliffs lit by the sun, then the green plants and the water, and the blue sky last.
