About Lava Fountain on Kīlauea

During the long Puʻu ʻŌʻō eruption on Kīlauea, which lasted from 1983 to 2018, lava sometimes burst from the ground in fountains many metres high. Scientists from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory photographed and measured the eruptions to learn how volcanoes work. Hawaiian tradition says the volcano is the home of Pele, the goddess of fire.

Puzzle tip: the red arc of lava is the key shape; the black ground and pale sky come last.
