About Limestone Cliffs of El Nido, Palawan

El Nido, at the northern tip of the island of Palawan, is famous for the towering limestone cliffs and islands of Bacuit Bay. The rock formed from the remains of sea creatures more than 250 million years ago and was later lifted out of the sea and carved by rain and waves. The town's name is Spanish for "the nest", after the swiftlets that build their nests in the cliffs; the nests are collected for bird's nest soup, a costly delicacy.

Puzzle tip: the grey cliffs against the sky are the clearest shapes; the boats and the blue water come next.
