About Rooftops of Bethlehem

Bethlehem spreads over the hills about 10 kilometres south of Jerusalem, at around 775 metres above sea level. In the Bible it is the town of King David as well as the birthplace of Jesus, and pilgrims have come here for more than 1,600 years. Its houses are built of pale local limestone, and church towers and minarets rise side by side above them. Bethlehem is known for its craftsmen, who carve olive wood and mother-of-pearl, and at Christmas its Manger Square fills with visitors from around the world.

Puzzle tip: the towers stand out against the sky; the many pale houses are easier to sort by their light and shade.
