About Roy’s Motel and Café, Amboy

Roy’s Motel and Café opened in 1938 in Amboy, in California’s Mojave Desert, and its tall sign in the space-age Googie style was added in 1959. When Interstate 40 bypassed the town in 1973, almost everyone left, and Amboy became nearly a ghost town. Today the sign still stands beside the old road, and nearby rises Amboy Crater, a young volcanic cone.

Puzzle tip: the red star and the sign are the key; the white cabins and the blue sky come next.
