About St Rumbold's Tower, Mechelen

The tower of St Rumbold's Cathedral rises 97 metres over the Grote Markt of Mechelen. Work on it began in 1452, and it was meant to reach about 167 metres, which would have made it the tallest building in the world, but money ran out and the top was never built. The tower holds two carillons, and Mechelen became the centre of carillon music: the world's first carillon school opened here in 1922 and still trains players from many countries. Visitors can climb 538 steps to the top. This photo shows the great square tower above the city.

Puzzle tip: start with the tall square tower and its clock, then fill the houses and the sky around it.
