About Viking Sod Houses at L'Anse aux Meadows

L'Anse aux Meadows, at the northern tip of Newfoundland, is the only place in North America where a Viking settlement has been found. Norse sailors from Greenland lived here around the year 1000, almost 500 years before Columbus, and tree rings in the wood they cut show it was felled in 1021. The site was discovered in 1960 by the Norwegian explorer Helge Ingstad and the archaeologist Anne Stine Ingstad, and in 1978 it was one of the first places named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This photo shows rebuilt Norse houses with walls and roofs of grass sod behind a wooden fence.

Puzzle tip: start with the wooden fence and the chimneys on the grass roofs, then the green turf, and finish with the sky.
