About Vineyards near Eger

Eger, in the north-east of Hungary, lies between the Bükk and Mátra hills, and vineyards cover the slopes around the town. Its best-known wine is Egri Bikavér, or Bull's Blood, a strong red blend. According to legend, the name comes from 1552, when the small garrison of Eger Castle held off a much larger Ottoman army, and the enemy believed the defenders were drinking bull's blood to gain their strength. Just outside the town, in the Valley of the Beautiful Women, dozens of small wine cellars are dug into the soft rock.

Puzzle tip: start with the rows of vines in the foreground; the green hill and the clouds come last.
