About The Danube Bend at Visegrád

North of Budapest the Danube, which has been flowing east, turns sharply south between two ranges of wooded hills. This turn is known as the Danube Bend, and the small town of Visegrád stands on its curve. After the Mongol invasion of 1241, Hungarian kings built a castle on the hill above, and in the fourteenth century their royal palace here was one of the finest in Europe. In 1335 the kings of Hungary, Bohemia and Poland met at Visegrád, and in 1991 the town again gave its name to a group of Central European countries.

Puzzle tip: start with the river and the town along its bank; the wooded hills and the sky take the most patience.
