Unlike most ocean islands, which are volcanic or made of coral, the main islands of Seychelles are made of ancient granite, once part of the great southern continent. Over time, wind and rain have shaped the rock into huge smooth boulders, which frame beaches such as Anse Source d'Argent on La Digue.
On La Digue, people travel mostly by bicycle or ox cart. Praslin is home to the Vallée de Mai, a forest where the coco de mer palm grows, producing the largest seed of any plant on Earth.
