About Autumn in Arashiyama, Kyoto

Arashiyama lies on the western edge of Kyoto, where the Katsura River flows out of wooded hills. Since the Heian period, more than a thousand years ago, the emperors' court came here by boat to enjoy the cherry blossoms in spring and the maple leaves in autumn. Viewing the autumn colours, called momijigari, is still a loved tradition in Japan. Nearby are the long Togetsukyō Bridge, whose name means "moon-crossing bridge", and a famous grove of towering bamboo.

Puzzle tip: the calm green river and the small boat are a good place to start; the hills are best sorted from red to yellow.
