About Angkor Wat at Sunrise

Angkor Wat was built in the early 12th century by King Suryavarman II as a Hindu temple to the god Vishnu, and later became a Buddhist shrine. It is the largest religious monument in the world, and its outline appears on the flag of Cambodia. The five towers are shaped like lotus buds and stand for the peaks of Mount Meru, the home of the gods. At dawn, visitors gather by the pools in front of the western entrance to watch the sky light up behind the towers.

Puzzle tip: the dark towers and palm trees against the bright sky are easy to spot; the reflections in the water come last.
