South Gate of Angkor Thom
Stone Faces of the Bayon, Angkor Thom
Tree Roots over Ta Prohm, Angkor
Angkor Wat at Sunrise
Between the 9th and the 15th centuries, the Khmer kings ruled much of Southeast Asia from Angkor, near today's town of Siem Reap, and built hundreds of stone temples there. Angkor Wat, the largest of them, appears on the national flag, and the whole area is a World Heritage Site.
Inside the walled city of Angkor Thom you can assemble the smiling stone faces of the Bayon and the gods and demons that line the road to its South Gate, and at Ta Prohm, giant tree roots grow right over the ruins.
