About Half-Timbered Houses of Little Venice, Colmar

Colmar is a small city in Alsace, in eastern France near the German border, known for its old half-timbered houses painted in bright colours. Its quarter called Little Venice grew up along the river Lauch, where gardeners once brought vegetables to market by flat-bottomed boat. Alsace changed hands between France and Germany several times, which shows in its houses, food and dialect. Colmar is also the birthplace of Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the sculptor of the Statue of Liberty. In this photo red flowers hang from the railings in front of a row of colourful houses.

Puzzle tip: start with the yellow house and the red flowers, then the other houses, and finish with the grey sky and the water.
