About Ziggurat of Ur, near Nasiriyah

The Great Ziggurat of Ur was built around 2100 BC by King Ur-Nammu as a temple platform for Nanna, the moon god and protector of the city. Ur was one of the great cities of Sumer, near the old course of the Euphrates in southern Iraq. The ziggurat was made of a core of mud bricks covered with baked bricks set in bitumen. Its lower stages and grand stairway were partly rebuilt in the 1980s. Around it, archaeologists found the royal tombs of Ur, full of gold and jewellery.

Puzzle tip: the brick walls have lines that help to fit the pieces; the wide sky and the sand are the hardest part.
