About Gauja River Bend in Autumn

The Gauja is Latvia’s longest river that flows entirely within the country. Its valley around Sigulda is protected for its forests, sandstone cliffs and winding river course. In autumn, deciduous trees turn yellow, orange and red along the banks, changing the view from the valley rim. The photograph follows a bright bend of water through the mixed autumn woodland. Gauja National Park, founded in 1973, was the first national park in Latvia.

Puzzle tip: trace the river bend first and sort the forest into warm colour groups.
