About Art Nouveau Street in Riga

Riga has one of Europe’s notable collections of Art Nouveau buildings, especially in the streets north of its old town. At the start of the twentieth century, architects covered apartment facades with curves, sculpted faces and plant forms. Many of these buildings are still used as homes and offices. The photographed street offers several colourful facades with different window and roof patterns. About a third of the buildings in central Riga are Art Nouveau, and several on Alberta iela were designed by Mikhail Eisenstein, father of the film director Sergei Eisenstein.

Puzzle tip: separate the facades by colour before matching the repeated windows.
