About Gutenberg Castle, Balzers

Gutenberg Castle sits on a small hill above Balzers in southern Liechtenstein. The hill has been settled since prehistoric times, while the visible stone castle dates mainly from the medieval period and later restoration. Its position makes it a clear landmark above the village and the Rhine valley. In the aerial image the castle crowns a compact hill beneath broad mountain slopes. The castle was rebuilt from ruins in the early 20th century by the sculptor and architect Egon Rheinberger.

Puzzle tip: start with the castle’s pale walls and follow the outline of its hill.
