About Helsinki Cathedral

The white Helsinki Cathedral, with its green domes, towers above Senate Square in the centre of the Finnish capital. It was designed by the German-born architect Carl Ludvig Engel as the crowning building of the new neoclassical centre, and it was finished in 1852, twelve years after his death. It was first named the Church of Saint Nicholas after the Russian tsar, as Finland was then a grand duchy of the Russian Empire. A wide flight of steps, a popular meeting place, leads up to its columns. In this photo the cathedral shines white under a deep blue sky.

Puzzle tip: the green domes and the white columns are the clearest details; the blue sky is best left for last.
