About Pine Forests of the Troodos Mountains

The Troodos Mountains rise in the centre-west of Cyprus, and their highest peak, Mount Olympus, reaches 1,952 metres. Geologists come from all over the world to study them, because the range is a piece of ancient ocean floor that was pushed up out of the sea, so you can walk on rocks that formed deep under the ocean. The slopes are covered with forests of black pine and Calabrian pine, and in winter there is often enough snow on the summit to ski. Monasteries, wine villages and the painted churches hide in the valleys. In this photo pine trees frame a view across forested ridges under a blue sky.

Puzzle tip: start with the dark pine trunks in front; the ridges fade into blue, so sort them by shade.
