About Mount Kinabalu above Kundasang, Sabah

Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, on the island of Borneo, rises to 4,095 metres and is the highest mountain in Malaysia. Its summit is a wide plateau of granite with jagged peaks, pushed up from below the earth's crust only a few million years ago. Kinabalu Park, which surrounds it, became one of Malaysia's first two World Heritage Sites in 2000 because of its extraordinary plant life: thousands of species, including many orchids and pitcher plants found nowhere else. Climbers usually take two days to reach the summit for sunrise. In this aerial photo the rocky peaks rise above forests and the hill town of Kundasang.

Puzzle tip: the pale rock peaks against the blue sky are the place to start; the green forests below take more time.
