About Victoria Falls at Sunset, Zambian Side

Victoria Falls lies on the Zambezi River, on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Scottish explorer David Livingstone was the first European to see it, in November 1855, and named it after Queen Victoria; the Zambian town of Livingstone, a few kilometres away, now carries his own name. Here the whole river drops about 100 metres into a narrow chasm cut in black basalt. From the Zambian side, paths lead along the Eastern Cataract and across the Knife-Edge Bridge. In this photo the low sun shines across the cliffs as the water falls into the gorge.

Puzzle tip: the bright sky and the sunlit cliffs are good places to start; the dark gorge and the grass come last.
