About Leopard Resting in a Tree, South Luangwa

South Luangwa National Park in eastern Zambia is known as one of the best places in Africa to see leopards. The park follows the Luangwa River, and its lagoons, grassy plains and ebony and mahogany woods are home to a large number of these shy cats. The Luangwa Valley is also where the walking safari was born: in the 1950s the conservationist Norman Carr began taking visitors out on foot. Leopards often spend the hottest hours high in a tree, where they also keep their prey safe from lions. In this photo a leopard lies stretched along a thick branch.

Puzzle tip: the spotted leopard and the grey branch are easy to see; the green leaves all around need patience.
