About Giraffes in the Bandia Reserve

The Bandia Reserve, about 65 kilometres south-east of Dakar on the road to Mbour, was created in 1990 to bring back animals that had long disappeared from this part of Senegal. Giraffes, white rhinos, zebras, buffaloes and several kinds of antelope were brought in, some from South Africa, and now live in a fenced area of dry bush and baobab forest. Inside the reserve, an old hollow baobab once served as a burial place for griots, the traditional singers and storytellers of West Africa. In this photo three giraffes browse among acacias and baobabs on a dry, sunny day.

Puzzle tip: the giraffes' patterned coats are the easiest part; the branches and the pale sky need more time.
