About Our Lady of the Rocks, Bay of Kotor

Our Lady of the Rocks is a small man-made island in the Bay of Kotor, opposite the town of Perast. Legend says that in 1452 two sailors found an icon of the Virgin Mary on a rock here, and from then on local seamen dropped stones and even sank old ships around it until an island grew. The church with its blue dome was built in the seventeenth century. Every year on 22 July the people of Perast row out in decorated boats and throw stones into the water in a custom called the fašinada. Beside it lies the natural island of St George, with its cypress trees.

Puzzle tip: start with the church and its blue dome, then fill the mountains behind and the calm water around.
