About Cliffs of the Huíla Plateau

Huíla province in southern Angola lies mostly on a high plateau, with a mild climate that drew Portuguese farmers and, much earlier, herding peoples such as the Mumuíla, known for their striking hairstyles and jewellery. Where the plateau ends, deep canyons and cliffs drop towards the coastal lowlands. Lubango, the provincial capital, is watched over by a statue of Christ on a hilltop, similar to the one in Rio de Janeiro. This photo shows rugged canyons and cliffs under a dramatic cloudy sky.

Puzzle tip: start with the lit edges of the cliffs, then the dark canyons, and the cloudy sky last.
