About Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Kyoto

The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove lies on the western edge of Kyoto, beside the gardens of Tenryu-ji temple. A path a few hundred metres long runs between walls of giant bamboo that grow so close together that the light below turns green. The rustling of the stems in the wind was chosen as one of the hundred soundscapes of Japan. Some kinds of bamboo can grow almost a metre in a single day. This photo shows stone steps climbing between low brushwood fences and towering stems.

Puzzle tip: start with the steps and the brushwood fences, then follow the bamboo stems up towards the light.
