About Boats on the Funafuti Lagoon

The lagoon of Funafuti is about 18 kilometres long, much larger than all the land of the atoll put together, and small boats are the easiest way to travel between its islets. Part of the western side of the lagoon is the Funafuti Conservation Area, which protects coral reefs, green turtles and nesting seabirds on several uninhabited islets. Most people live on Fongafale, the main islet, which in places is less than a hundred metres wide. Fishing in the lagoon and on the outer reef is still part of daily life for many families.

Puzzle tip: start with the small boats and the jetty on the horizon; the bright blue water and the white pebbles come last.
