About Crater Lake of Santa Ana Volcano

Santa Ana, also called Ilamatepec, is the highest volcano in El Salvador at 2,381 metres. Inside its crater lies a small, steaming lake of green-turquoise water, coloured by sulphur and very acidic. Hikers climb to the rim from Cerro Verde National Park and on a clear day can see Lake Coatepeque and the Pacific Ocean. The volcano's last eruption was in 2005.

Puzzle tip: the pale turquoise lake is the centre; the layered walls of the crater need patience.
