About Izalco Volcano, El Salvador

Izalco is one of the youngest volcanoes in the Americas. It grew from a field in 1770 and erupted almost without stopping until 1958, and its glow could be seen so far out at sea that sailors called it the Lighthouse of the Pacific. Its bare, dark cone rises about 1,950 metres next to the older Santa Ana volcano, and hikers can climb it from Cerro Verde National Park.

Puzzle tip: the dark cone is the centre; the clouds and the green slopes need patience.
