About Ginkaku-ji, the Silver Pavilion, Kyoto

Ginkaku-ji, the Silver Pavilion, was built from 1482 as a retirement villa for the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa, who modelled it on his grandfather's Golden Pavilion across the city. Despite its name, it was never covered in silver. After his death it became a Zen temple, and it is known for its quiet elegance and its garden of raked white sand. In this photo the two-storey wooden pavilion stands above a pond, surrounded by pines, moss and clipped shrubs.

Puzzle tip: start with the dark wooden pavilion, then the pond and the shrubs, and finish with the pine trees and the sky.
