About Dhows in the Harbour of Kuwait City

Wooden dhows are still moored in the old harbour of Kuwait City, near the fish market and Souq Sharq. Most of them are now used for fishing, with engines in place of sails, but their shape has changed little over the centuries. Pearl diving, called al-ghous, was once the main work of Kuwaiti sailors, who spent the hot summer months at sea. Every year young Kuwaitis take part in a pearl-diving trip in traditional dhows to keep the memory of that life alive. Here, the boats are reflected in the calm green water of the harbour.

Puzzle tip: the boats and their reflections are the clearest shapes; the water and the sky come last.
