About Dürnstein above the Danube, Wachau

Dürnstein sits beside the Danube in the Wachau Valley of Lower Austria. Its old town is known for the blue tower of the abbey church, while the ruins of a medieval castle stand on the rocky slope above it. Terraced vineyards cover many of the valley’s hillsides, showing how closely wine growing and the river have shaped this landscape. The Wachau is a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape. From above, this photograph brings together the town’s roofs, the broad river, vineyard slopes and the surrounding hills.

Puzzle tip: find the blue church tower and red roofs first; leave the broad river for the end.
