About Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, Iceland

Fjaðrárgljúfur is a winding canyon in the south of Iceland, about two kilometres long and up to 100 metres deep. It was carved by the little river Fjaðrá and by floods of meltwater at the end of the last ice age, some 9,000 years ago. Its steep walls are made of palagonite, a soft rock formed when volcanic ash meets water, and in summer they are covered in thick green moss. A path along the rim leads to viewpoints high above the river.

Puzzle tip: the river at the bottom is a good place to start; the mossy cliffs are best sorted by their light and dark greens.
