About Forest Buffalo, Loango National Park

The forest buffalo of Central Africa is smaller than its cousin of the East African savanna, with a reddish-brown coat and horns that curve backwards, so it can move easily through dense forest. In Loango National Park, on the coast of Gabon, these buffalo often come out of the trees to graze on open meadows near the lagoons and the sea. Gabon has set aside about a tenth of its land as national parks, and most of the country is still covered in rainforest. This photo shows a buffalo grazing in short green grass.

Puzzle tip: start with the red-brown buffalo, then the green trees behind it, and the even grass and the sky last.
